Minton Floor Restoration, Coventry

We were contacted by a client who had some issues with their mosaic hallway floor. At one of the doorways, there were loose and damaged pieces- a common problem with floors of this age and type. Also, as the house had been extended from the hallway, there were now two doorways adjacent to each other where the pattern no longer matched and the customer wanted a more coherent appearance to the design.

We started by carefully lifting all loose pieces to retain as much of the original floor as possible. Then all damaged sections of the subfloor were chopped away and relaid.

Once that had dried sufficiently, the tiles themselves could be replaced. The first doorway was re-tiled in its previous design, using original and reclaimed tiles where possible and replica pieces if not. For the two doorways together, a design was agreed with the client that was sympathetic to the original floor, but gave a much more balanced and symmetrical appearance.

When the new tiles had been set and grouted in, the entire floor was stripped of all its existing surface coatings, then given a deep clean. The floor was then left for a period to fully dry out.

Once the moisture in the floor had dropped to a suitable level, we returned to re-seal the floor, apply a satin wax dressing and give a final polish in accordance with the clients wishes for the end appearance. The floor had now been restored to its former glory and will look good for years to come.

"We are delighted with our amazing bathrooms, kitchen and hall floor all meticulously completed by Warwickshire Mosaic & Stone. I knew from our original meeting to discuss the job who we would be asking to complete the work at our home, knowing that care and attention to detail would be to the highest standard. Rob missed nothing- there are no imperfections anywhere. We decided from the beginning of creating our home that we wanted the best top quality products and workmanship- absolutely what Rob delivered. We appreciate your genuine love for your craft and that you brought that into our home. Always recommend to friends, who have also expressed their appreciation."

“Our hallway floor looks the best it has in years. Rob was extremely friendly and professional, he explained all aspects of the restoration process and helped guide us when it came to making decisions on the final finish that we were after. Very pleased!”

“My wife and I are extremely pleased with the finished work. As a retired architect with 45 years in the construction industry, I have to say it has been a pleasure to see the very professional way in which you went about setting out the tiles and working to find the best layout with me and my appointed job architect, David Watkins, who similarly has been in the construction industry for 45 years. We both consider your co-operation and helpfulness unsurpassed”
A. Bethell, Barford

“Rob is a true professional in all aspects of his job. From time keeping to flawless workmanship. Over the years he has done indoor/outdoor flooring and wall tiling including tricky stone stacked walls, laminate flooring and intricate details. His advice to me has been crucial many times regarding different sub structures etc. I would be happy for any prospective clients to look at the quality and craftsmanship of Rob’s work at my property”
Alex Ratcliffe, Kenilworth
“Warwickshire Mosaic and Stone recently repaired and cleaned our Minton tiled hallway. The floor was in disrepair in areas and Rob did an amazing job of colour matching and restoring the floor. After cleaning and polishing it looks amazing and we are absolutely delighted with the result. Fantastic workmanship.”
Ann Jeffrey, Earlsdon
“We invited Warwickshire Stone and Mosaic to quote for us when we were in the process of planning a complete kitchen/dining room refit and were immediately impressed with his professionalism. I wanted to be fairly involved and to understand the design aspects of the project well so he talked me through the pros and cons of different types of floor tiles in detail. He also came up with an effective solution for covering 2 types of flooring seamlessly. We chose a high end floor tile, which Rob fitted immaculately. He is a tidy, logical worker, who leaves his work space clean at the end of each work day. He arrived on time, worked long days to ensure the floor was ready for the next stage of our schedule and was honest about timescales. We rated the design aspect of his work so highly that after we ordered bespoke ceramic fish scale tiles for our kitchen splashback, we chose Rob to fit these. As they were all individually handmade, they were slightly different sizes, colours and shapes but again, the finish was beautifully professional. I would not hesitate to recommend Rob for any tiling project, big or small, especially intricate design work and would not choose anyone else for future projects in our home.
